Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos Buffet “La Plaza” Review (Breakfast & Lunch)

Every legitimate all-inclusive resort should have a quality buffet. There’s just something about having a go to spot to start your day off with a nice buffet breakfast that makes your experience that much better. Well, the Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos La Plaza does not disappoint. Here is a little photo tour of the buffet experience for both breakfast and lunch.

Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos Buffet “La Plaza”

The buffet is scheduled to open up at 7 AM. A couple of times they were running a little bit late though so it may may not always be open when it is supposed to (you might have to wait just a couple of minutes). Breakfast will run from 7 AM to 11 AM. Meanwhile lunch should run from noon to 4 PM. La Plaza does not serve dinner.

As soon you enter the buffet you should be directed toward a table. You can choose to sit inside or you can also choose to sit outside. Inside, you will find restaurant style seating.

The outdoors area is pretty spacious and there are plenty of tables in the (partial) shade which would feel very good when the weather is right (the weather is almost always right 😉 ).

If you need a little extra shade you can just pop up an umbrella.

Typically, a staff member will bring you some drinks for coffee if you put in the request. In my experience they were very attentive and efficient. I really can’t say enough nice things about the staff at this resort.

The breakfast buffet consists of just about any dish you would want. If you want a traditional American breakfast you will find plenty of options like: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, and others.

I personally would recommend going to one of the cooking stations to get them to cook something up for you like the mini waffles, french toast, or get them to cook up an omelette.

Pro tip: If you find that there are waffles that have been sitting out for a little while you can actually ask them to cook some up fresh for you. I was very pleased with what they made for us on the spot.

I’ve learned not to be shy when it comes to making requests like this at hotels and it has paid off big time. Remember, that you paid your hard earned money to stay at a hotel so there is nothing wrong with making requests like this.

I also was a big fan of their Mexican dishes. They had all sorts of different types of Mexican breakfast dishes like chilaquiles, tostadas, etc. I thought they were extremely flavorful but my recommendation would be to grab these off the counter as soon as they come out because they can get soggy pretty quickly.

I was pretty impressed with the pastry station as well. Here you can find a selection of breads and lots of tasty pastries.

At the pastry station, you will find all sorts of different sugary breads and things like donuts (look for the donut towers).

I was not the biggest fan of the donuts simply because they did not taste like donuts that I was used to having back home. They sure did look good, though.

But I did like some of the sugary bread and pastries that they had out. Prepare for your mouth to start watering as you scroll down.

Here are some other dishes you might be interested in.

There are tons of different juices you could choose from as well. You’ll find juices like orange juice, papaya juice, pineapple juice, cranberry juice, green juice — the list just goes on.

And if you would like to make a mimosa they also have champagne out. You can request one of these from your server but if you like them stronger then you may want to make your own.

If you have kids, there is a little section for kids, where you can find things like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. (I saw plenty of adults picking off from the kids section.)

We also tried out the buffet at lunchtime.

Once again, I was highly impressed cooking stations. There are usually three cooking stations each serving up something a little different.

For example, you might find one cooking up a fresh turkey or you might find one cooking noodles and meats (essentially a Mongolian Grill).

I would highly recommend you to try out the Mongolian Grill. You simply choose your selection of proteins along with vegetables and noodles and the cook will toss it up for use in a matter of minutes. The Mongolian Grill was one of the highlights of not just the buffet but the overall dining experience at the resort.

If you are in the mood for a salad you will find a huge salad bar with many different types of toppings and dressings.

They also had a lots of different seafood dishes and other dishes as well.

There will also be a large selection of desserts to choose from at lunch. I really liked the fake Oreo looking things below.

If you want something sweet but a little bit on the healthier side there is also a lot of fruit.

Final word

Overall, I was very impressed by this buffet. It has seemingly endless options for both breakfast and lunch. And it wasn’t just about the quantity but also about the quality.

We were able to enjoy several fresh items that made us look forward to breakfast each morning and also allowed us to really enjoy the lunch. So I think that most people will be pleasantly surprised by the buffet, “La Plaza.”

  1. Those photos, Yummy! What I have noticed while traveling is how hard or even impossible to find a regular double layer yellow cake with white frosting, like a birthday cake. Most cakes in Europe and even Mexico are filled with fruit, or soaked in sweetened condensed milk (which is my favorite by the way “Pastel Tres Leches”).

Another thing, in the United States, for example, all pastries are soe extremely sweet, so when I try them somewhere else they’re not always that sweet.

It’s funny, that I’ve been in Mexico practically since February 2018, and have never been to a beach town resort, yet.

I might just go for the desserts 🙂

    1. Yeah, I love those uber-sweet pastries, especially with breakfast. Not a huge fan of the fruit in cakes but tres leches is definitely a favorite! A lot of beach town resorts in MX!
